The University of Oklahoma Max Westheimer Airport will hold its ninth Annual Aviation Festival on Saturday, October 17, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission and parking is free.
The festival will include an open house, aircraft static displays, tours of the air traffic control tower, and a children’s activity area. Aircraft static displays include a Chinook Plus II, Cirrus SR 22 Turbo, King Air C90, Cherokee Warrior, AT6 Texan, Taildragger/Champion, and bi-planes. TV news helicopters from KFOR and KWTV will also be on hand. The Norman Fire Department, OU Police Department, S.W.A.T. Team, Norman Police Department, Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics, and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol will also have displays during the festival.
“It’s a fun time seeing kids of all ages come out and see the airplanes and experience the airport! It’s all about the kids,” said OU aviation program director Kenneth Carson. “Before September 11, 2001, children had the opportunity to sit in the cockpits of planes and that was an inspiring experience for a lot of children. Today, OU Aviation is doing what we can to educate our community and cultivate the youth’s interest in aviation and aerospace – the job market for aviation and aerospace jobs will be rich for decades.”
The open house always has a large draw from the community and to top it off OU’s Sooner Schooner will be on hand pulled by Boomer and Sooner. Ozzie's Diner will be open during the event for refreshments. A number of organizations serve as sponsors for this event.
The 2015 Presenting sponsor for the annual aviation event is CNI Aviation. Platinum Sponsors include OG&E; Republic Bank & Trust; and Valliance Bank.
