OU College of Professional and Continuing Studies wants our programs to be accessible to as many students as possible, and scholarships are a great way to reduce your costs. If you’ve been admitted to the University of Oklahoma, you may be eligible for a scholarship.

Scholarships for College of Professional and Continuing Studies students range from $500 to $1,900 per semester and are based on financial need and academics. 

SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION SCHEDULE

  • Fall applications open July 15 and close September 7
  • Spring applications open December 15 and close February 2
  • Summer applications open April 29 and close May 15

*NOTE: Individual scholarships have varying requirements. Please read the scholarship description thoroughly before you apply. If you have already received a scholarship once you are not eligible to receive that same scholarship again.

Please note all scholarships listed below are only available for undergraduate students enrolled in an OU School of Aviation Studies degree program. 

Students must meet all listed criteria to be eligible for these scholarships. 

Scholarship amounts range from $500 to $1,000.

James M. Cook Memorial Scholarship

Requirements to Apply: 

  • Minimum Overall 3.00 GPA
  • Declared Aviation Major for one year at OU and currently enrolled in a credit flight course here

  • Display leadership and initiative as evidenced by extracurricular activities, awards and honors

  • Flight fees cannot be covered by another scholarship

Application Process: 

  • Submit a resume (pilot’s format), including your overall GPA
  • Submit a brief narrative expressing your aviation goals, career objective, why you feel you deserve the award and how you will use it

Capt. Isaac Algaze Aviation Scholarship

Requirements to Apply: 

  • Minimum Overall 2.75 GPA
  • Any declared Aviation Major
  • Display leadership and initiative as evidenced by extracurricular activities, awards and honors

Application Process: 

  • Submit a resume, including your overall GPA 
  • Submit a brief narrative expressing your aviation goals, career objective, why you feel you deserve the award and how you will use it
  • Must be an active Member of an OU Aviation Student Club/Organization, such as AAAE, NIFA, SAC or SATCA, and provide a memo/email from the faculty sponsor attesting to this fact

Rankin Family Scholarship

Requirements to Apply: 

  • Minimum Overall GPA 3.00
  • Declared Aviation Major (any classification)

Application Process: 

  • Submit a resume, including your over GPA
  • Submit Essay detailing what has inspired you to pursue aviation, as well as what you would like to do in your future aviation career and why

 

Daniel and Melissa Hesselius CFI Scholarship

Requirements to Apply:
Must be used for CFI, CFII, or MEI classes or flight fees (must be enrolled in one of these to receive the award)
Must have minimum 2.75 GPA
 
Application Process:
Submit a one to three-page letter detailing your aviation goals and aspirations as well as any other academic, athletic, career, professional, or other achievements to date. Please include any aviation experience and note why you feel deserving of the award.

Winifred Adams Holland Scholarship

Requirements to Apply: 

  • Minimum Overall 2.80 GPA, and a 3.00 Major GPA
  • Declared Aviation Major (flying or non-flying) for one year at OU
  • Display leadership and initiative as evidenced by extracurricular activities, community service, awards and honors
  • Provide at least three references and their contact information that can attest to your leadership potential and integrity

Application Process: 

  • Submit a cover letter and resume, including your overall GPA
  • Submit a brief narrative detailing why you chose Aviation as your major and what your short-term and long-term career goals are

Lindy Ritz ATC Scholarship

Requirements to Apply: 

  • Minimum Overall GPA 3.00
  • Minimum Major GPA 3.25
  • Declared Air Traffic Management Major or other Aviation Major with an ATC Minor may be considered
  • Service to the Aviation Department and the community
  • Participation in Aviation Student Groups will be considered when evaluating applications

Application Process: 

  • Submit a resume, cover letter and one faculty member letter of recommendation
  • Submit a brief narrative expressing your aviation goals, career objective, why you feel you deserve the award and how you will use it
  • Must be an active member of an OU Aviation Student Club/Organization, such as AAAE, NIFA, SAC or SATCA, and provide a memo/email from the faculty sponsor attesting to this fact

The Carson Family Student Aviation Leadership/Volunteer Scholarship

Requirements to Apply: 

  • Be a full-time aviation student sophomore or junior (2nd or 3rd year) with declared major in B.S. Aviation concentration
  • Have at least a 3.00 cumulative GPA
  • Be in good standing with OU Student Standards of Conduct with Student Affairs
  • Be enrolled in the awarding semester (spring semester)
  • Be an active member of an OU Student Government Association SGA (registered and in good standing) with Student Life Division of Aviation Studies Club(s), or Campus Activities Council activity board or CAC Activity supporting committee member

OR

  • Be active in OU armed forces ROTC unit OR
  • Be a Sooner Flight Academy part-time worker

  • Must list outside-the-classroom community activities which you have been involved with since being a Sooner and provide a short description of the impact of your service

  • Must be a Full-Time OU Aviation Major enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours (may be a new or returning undergraduate student).
  • Minimum Overall 3.00 COMB RET GPA

General Aviation Scholarship – Flying

Requirements to Apply: 

  • Must be a Full-Time OU Aviation Major enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours (may be a new or returning undergraduate student).

Dave Buckles Memorial Aviation Scholarship

Requirements to Apply:

  • Must be a full-time, regularly enrolled student in the School;
  • Must have a minimum overall 3.0 and a 3.25 major grade point average on a 4.0 scale (as long as the minimum is met no additional credit is given for exceeding the minimum);
  • Must be a declared flying Aviation Major for one year at OU and currently enrolled in a credit flight course at OU;
  • Must already have a private pilot license and be pursuing commercial license, multi-engine, instrument, CFI or CFII ratings;
  • Must have a demonstrated financial need;
  • May not have previously received this scholarship;
  • Must not be the Donors or an immediate family member of the Donors.

Aviation Management Scholarship

Requirements to Apply:

  • Minimum Overall 2.75 GPA;
  • Declared Aviation Management Non-Flying Track Major;
  • Currently enrolled at OU;
  • Display leadsership and initiative as evidenced by extracurricular activities, community service, awards and honors;
  • Membership in the Sooner Chapter of AAAE considered a plus.

Joe Coulter Scholarship

Requirements to Apply:

  • Minimum Overall 2.80 GPA;
  • Must be a declared Aviation Major (flying or non-flying) for one year at OU;
  • Display leadership and initiative as evidenced by extracurricular activities, awards and honors;
  • If Flying Major, flight fees cannot be covered by another scholarship.

Margie Richison Women in Aviation Scholarship

Requirements to Apply:

  • Must be a female student enrolled in an OU School of Aviation Studies program;
  • Must be a holder of a Class III Medical at time of application;
  • Must have completed a solo flight;
  • Must not be the Donors or an immediate family member of the Donors.   

Application Process:

  • Submit a 1-3 page letter addressed to the "Margie Richison Women's Aviation Scholarship Selection Committee" detailing your aviation goals and aspirations, as well as any other academic, athletic, career, professional or other achievements to date. Please include any aviation experience and note why you feel deserving of the award and how it will be used.
  • Submit 3 letters of personal recommendation that attest to your character, integrity and experience, and be sure to include areas other than aviation.

Col. Kenneth R. Carson Leadership Program Scholarship

Requirements to Apply:

  • Must be an active member of the Col. Kenneth R. Carson Aviation Leadership Program and provide a memo/email from the faculty/staff sponsor attesting to this fact.
  • Must have a minimum Overall 3.0 GPA
  • Must be persuing a degree in Aviation (all tracks - Private Pilot, Management (Flying), Management (Non-Flying), Air Traffic Control
  • Display exemplary leadership and initiative as evidenced by extracurricular activities, work history, awards, and honors.

  • Submit a brief summary statement detailing a demonstrated financial need.      
  • Submit a brief narrative expressing professional goals, career objectives, and anticipated contributions to the aviation, aerospace, and/or defense fields and how this scholarship award will help you achieve these plans.

Flight Time Scholarship

Requirements to Apply:

  • Have completed one full year as an OU Aviation major
  • Be in good academic standing with a minimum 2.50 overall GPA, and a 3.00 major GPA sophomore through senior standing
  • High moral character with history of integrity
  • Flight fees cannot be covered by another scholarship or program
  • Professional Pilot or Aviation Management student currently enrolled in a credit flight course

Application Process:

  • Pilot resume and one page essay describing why you wish to be a career pilot, and what you are passionate about outside of aviation.
  • Written letter from president/club officer of a student or volunteer organization you are currently involved with that describes the contributions you have made to that organization and how long you have been an active member.
