Welcome to the Sooner Jump Start Mentorship program! As a part of the mentorship program SJS students are matched with a current OU student according to your hobbies, major, and countries of special interest. The goal of this program is to welcome new international students to OU and assist with their transition to the university and the city of Norman. Mentors provide a support network for students, guidance, and encouragement related to all facets of university and American life. They also interact on a personal level with students and attend social, cultural, sporting, and other events.

Participation in the mentorship program will be based on one academic term, Fall/Spring/Summer. Extension of participation beyond the first semester will be approved on a case by case basis by the director. Mentor/mentee matching will be renewed each semester; there is no guarantee mentors will receive the same mentee beyond the one semester.
Mentors are current OU students who volunteer to support incoming international students, by answering questions about campus and American life, sharing relevant experiences, and attending events with their mentees. Mentors must attend a training session in order to participate in the program. After applying for the program, students will be contacted about upcoming training options. Mentors are trained to respond to common questions (for example, related to the Sooner Jump Start Pathway program, campus housing, using the ONE student portal, buying textbooks, or getting around Norman).
