Susan J. Kimmel, Ph.D., is the Executive Director of the Center for Early Childhood Professional Development (CECPD), College of Continuing Education and Adjunct for OU Extended Campus, both at The University of Oklahoma.  Since 1999, Dr. Kimmel has regularly taught graduate courses for OU Extended Campus Administrative Leadership program, specializing in Organization Culture and Change, Followership, and Organizational Development. She has managed CECPD and its staff of approximately 40 employees since 2002.  She has implemented large federal research projects and led change efforts across the state to promote school readiness.  She is a former early childhood teacher, lead instructional coach for the U.S. Army’s Children and Youth Services in Heidelberg, Germany, and principal investigator of multiple federal grants.  She is an author of several professional journal articles focusing on teacher professional development, instructional coaching, and closing the achievement gaps in at-risk preschool children. Her most recent projects include the development of Early Learning Quick Assessments (ELQA). These web-based progress monitoring tools focus on math and literacy for teachers of three to four-year-olds. Dr. Kimmel is the founder of the Instructional Coaching Institute and the Literacy in Action online professional learning series.  Additionally, she is a School Board member of the Carlton Landing Academy, the first rural charter school in Oklahoma.  Among her areas of expertise are organizational leadership, professional learning for classroom teachers and higher education, early childhood education, instructional coaching, school readiness, and managing change.
