Human Relations is now offering a new 60-credit hour Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) emphasis for master's students seeking the Licensed Professional Counseling (LPC) certification for the State of Oklahoma. If you have not graduated with your MHR, you may switch your program to the Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) emphasis; however, you will need to meet the requirements for that Program of Study.

About the Master of Human Relations - Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program

The Master of Human Relations - Clinical Mental Health Counseling program is a 60-credit hour concentration for students seeking the Licensed Professional Counseling (LPC) certification for the State of Oklahoma.

Program Type

The Master of Human Relations - Clinical Mental Health Counseling requires 60 hours that can be completed onsite.

Requirements

Core requirements - 9 hours

  • HR 5003 Theoretical Foundations
  • HR 5013 Current Problems in Human Relations
  • HR 5023 Research in Human Relations

Required Counseling Courses - 24 hours 

  • HR 5403 Psycho-Social Development
  • HR 5453 Ethical Issues in Human Relations Counseling
  • HR 5483 Diagnosis in Human Relations Counseling
  • HR 5493 Assessment and Evaluation in Human Relations
  • HR 5633 Advanced Counseling Skills
  • HR 5663 Psychopathology
  • HR 5200 Internship

Electives - 27 hours

27 additional hours of counseling electives are required. These electives will be approved by the graduate liason and LPC advisor. 

Classroom-Based Coursework

At least 39 hours of program coursework must be classroom-based HR courses.

Internship

The 6-hour internship must be pre-approved by the Department of Human Relations. In order to start the internship, 45 credit-hours (9 core and 18 elective hours) must be complete. Transfer Coursework Transfer credits will be reviewed and approved on a case-by-case basis.
