SOONER FLIGHT ACADEMY VISITS NATIONAL WASP WWII MUSEUM IN SWEETWATER, TEXAS

The Women's Airforce Service Pilots (WASPS) became the first women to fly American military aircraft. The WASPs transported every type of military aircraft and towed targets for live anti-aircraft gun practice. They simulated strafing missions and transported cargo, logging more than 60 million miles in flight. More than 1,000 WASPs served and 38 lost their lives during the war. Jackie Cochran was founder of the WASPs and became one of history's most accomplished female aviators.
