The highlight of the Eagles Summer Camp program is one-on-one flight instruction with an FAA Certified Flight Instructor in OU’s fleet of training aircraft.

Each level of Eagles camp is offered in two sessions each summer. Session A takes place in June, while Session B takes place in July. Campers in Session A will receive the same camp experience as campers in Session B.

Registration for our 2020 Summer Camp dates opens on March 1.

The cost to attend a Eagles camp is $625 per camper.

Eagles 1 — A: June 12-18 / B: July 6-10

Eagles 1 is a five-day camp that serves as a hands-on introduction to private pilot ground school for teens age 14 to 18.

The theme for this week is Aviation Careers. Campers will learn all about flight planning, gain a basic understanding of aircraft instrumentation and plot a course using newly acquired map skills.

Eagles 1 campers will kick off the week at OU's Max Westheimer Airport, where they will tour the KOUN air traffic control tower, learn about airport operations and aircraft maintenance, and conduct a pre-flight of a "bugged" aircraft. Campers will also gain experience in the OU Flight Training Simulator and spend a day at Will Rogers World Airport in a behind-the-scenes tour. A working professional pilot will visit with campers about the career opportunities available throughout the aviation industry.

Eagles 2 — A: June 15-19 / B: July 20-24

Eagles 1 is a pre-requisite for Eagles 2. Please do not register for Eagles 2 if you have not yet attended Eagles 1.

Eagles 2 attendees must be 15 years old or older by June 1. The themes for the week will be teamwork and leadership.

Campers begin the week working as a team on a mock airport runway to prepare for the real world pattern and touch-and-go flights they will participate in later in the week. Teamwork and leadership are explored through simulated crew resource management activities and physical challenges.

Eagles 2 campers are looking ahead toward college, including the School of Aviation Studies program at the University of Oklahoma. Contact with aviation professionals and faculty provides insight into the educational options available at OU.

Registering for Summer Camp

To register your child for a Sooner Flight Academy Summer Camp or Day Camp, you must first create a Registration Information account. This account will not only allow you to register your child for Sooner Flight Academy events, it will also let you track your child’s history of engagement with Sooner Flight Academy.

To create a Registration Information account, just click the registration link for the camp you want your child to attend. Here, you will be prompted to enter a username and password for your account. If you have previously registered a child for a Sooner Flight Academy camp, your current username and password will still work. If this is your first time registering a child for one of our camps, just click the link to create a new login to get started.

Once you have created an account, you can then click the Add a Child link to add a child to your Registration Information account. A child must be added to your account before they can be registered for a camp.

Once your child has been added to your account, you can register him or her for any available Sooner Flight Academy camp by clicking the Registration link in the left-hand menu.

Please be advised – you must fill out all required fields during Registration—including the Scholarship Application if you’re requesting a partial scholarship—in order to complete the registration process. You cannot save a partial registration or complete your registration at a later time, so please make sure you have all required information at hand when you start the registration process.

OU Faculty, Staff and Students
If you are a faculty member, staff member or student at the University of Oklahoma, please use your OU Net ID and password to create your account. If you are faculty, staff or a student at the OU Health Sciences Center, please use your OUHSC credentials to create your account. Doing so will allow you to qualify for our Member Rate Discount.

Summer Camp Payment/Cancellation Policy

Registration for all camps opens on March 1 and requires a non-refundable application fee of $25. Registration remains open until the Monday morning of each camp session.

There are two payment options:
•    Option One – Pay your camp balance in full when you register for a camp.
•    Option Two – Apply for a partial scholarship when you register for a camp.

If you apply for a partial scholarship, you will only pay the non-refundable application fee at the time of registration. The remaining balance will be added to your account after the scholarships have been awarded. Your balance must be paid no later than May 15.

Due to current circumstances related to Covid-19 in Oklahoma and the nation, the partial scholarship application deadline has been extended to May 1. Partial scholarship awards will be announced by email on May 8. The deadline for acceptance and payment remains May 15. Please check the Scholarship FAQ section of our FAQ page for more information about applying for scholarships.

Extended Day Curriculum

You can also sign up for our Extended Day Curriculum option during summer camp registration. For an extra $50, Extended Day Curriculum allows you to drop off your camper each morning as early as 7:30 a.m. and pick up your camper as late as 5 p.m. Extended Day curriculum is not available on the Friday afternoon of summer camp. Your camper must be picked up by 3:30 p.m. on Friday (our graduation ceremony starts at 2:45 p.m.).
