Marshals are responsible for leading the OU Extended Campus graduates into the auditorium during the Saturday Convocation ceremony, and assisting with the seating of the students.
Marshals will lead the graduates into the auditorium as part of the processional. When they reach the reserved seating section in the auditorium, a Marshal will stage on either end of the row being seated. When that row has been filled, Marshals will step to the next row and begin filling that row. This continues until all graduates have processed into the auditorium and all rows are filled. Marshals will then return to their reserved seats. Marshals and students remain standing until instructed from the podium to be seated.
Faculty attending Convocation ceremonies lead the processional in front of the graduates and take their place on stage and remain standing until directed to sit after the National Anthem has finished. For more information about attending Convocation contact the OU Extended Campus Events Coordinator, Missy Mitchell.
Marshals assemble with the graduates during the Friday evening event. During the Commencement, the marshals will assemble the College of Professional and Continuing Studies graduates in the designated area, and will lead the OU Extended Campus processional into the stadium or arena, and sit with the graduates in the designated area. This is all handled by the OU Commencement team, who will provide detailed instructions.
(NOTE: The Banner Carrier will be instructed to follow the Platform Party to place the Banner in the holder on stage. The Banner Carrier then returns to his/her reserved seat in the auditorium. Marshals are responsible for ensuring that graduates DO NOT follow the Platform Party onto stage. This is a very important part of the Marshaling duty.)
When cued during the stage ceremony, marshals will assist with directing the graduates to enter and exit the stage.
