Students learning in a classroom

CESL Classes

CESL classes meet for 20 hours per week from 9a.m. - 3p.m. on Monday - Thursday. We have two types of courses: Core Courses and Seminar Courses.

The typical class size at CESL is 9-12 students. We believe that this size class allows the best interaction between students and a student and instructor.

Core Courses are offered at 9 levels. Your level is determined by your placement test upon arrival. Each Core Course is 50 minutes long and takes place in the morning hours.

University Preparation - OU Track

University Preparation is a course offered through OU's Track Program.

The University Preparation course is an option for students who want to attend OU and complete the OU Track requirements. Successful completion of the OU Track program allows students to be admitted to the University of Oklahoma with lower IELTS and TOEFL scores than students who do not go through the OU Track program.

The University Preparation course is offered in the morning and is taken in place of the core courses.

Seminar Courses

In the afternoon, CESL offers a variety of seminar courses. Seminar courses can be either one hour or two hours, so you may take one or two seminar courses per session, depending on the time length of your seminar choice.

Students in their first session at CESL take the one-hour seminar course called CESL 101. CESL 101 prepares students for success at CESL and at the university.

Seminar classes vary each session, but below are examples of the topics we offer to our students:

  • CESL 101 (required for new students)
  • Grammar Seminar
  • American History and Government
  • Public Speaking
  • Everyday English
  • Service Learning (Community Service and Volunteering)
  • Pronunciation
  • University Reading and Writing

Seminar classes are rated for beginning, intermediate, or advanced skill levels.
