On June 15, U.S. Navy Secretary Ray Mabus announced a plan to strengthen student achievement in science, technology, engineering, and math education (STEM). The plan will see the Department of the Navy double its investment in STEM education initiatives to more than $100 million dollars by 2015.
On June 24, OU Aviation juniors Jennifer Scanlon and Robin Torres successfully completed the 2011 Women’s Air Race Classic, flying in the university’s Piper PA-28-161 Warrior aircraft. The pilots finished the cross country race in first place among first-time event flyers.
