Kathryne Roden, Academic Programs Director

The world of higher education has changed from a slow, monolithic force to a fast-paced environment incorporating the latest knowledge and discoveries. PACS has one of the best repositories of subject matter experts in the nation, with more than 240 adjunct faculty members who work in a wide variety of disciplines. To keep up with this small army of instructors, PACS would like to introduce the director of academic programs, Kathryne Roden.

About Kathryne Roden, Ph.D.

Roden joined PACS in 2013 and works with the subject matter experts and the PACS lead faculty to help develop new curricula and assess current course accreditation standards. Additionally, she is the liaison between the faculty, many of whom are distance instructors, and the PACS academic technology team in developing online courses.

“I hope to continue to move PACS’s online degree and certificate programs forward so students and faculty are engaged in courses that are at the cutting edge of online course delivery,” Roden said. “I also hope to help create and facilitate virtual learning communities for our faculty, students and alumni.”

Roden earned a B.A. in communication from the University of Oklahoma and an M.S. in Communication Disorders from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. She has worked as a speech-language pathologist and educational consultant for almost 20 years. She returned to OU as an adult learner for her M.ED. in adult and higher education and her Ph.D. in educational leadership and policy studies. Her dissertation focused on the use of films in higher education in teaching and learning.

When asked what she most likes about her job, she is quick to answer: “Easily the most enjoyable part of my job is collaborating and working with students, faculty, adjunct instructors and PACS staff. The opportunity to work on issues that really matter, concerning teaching and learning in the online environment are very rewarding to me.”

Currently, she teaches the Study-In-Depth Prospectus and Conflict Resolution undergraduate courses and Introduction to Graduate Studies and Qualitative Research graduate courses. Roden also serves as an instructional designer and the adult learner teaching consultant for online learners for the OU College of Law’s Master of Legal Studies Indigenous Peoples program.

“I believe that education is one of our society’s primary keys to success. College degrees open unexpected doors and help students not only develop their skills and talents but also realize how they can best contribute to their communities as well as society at large.”
