“Online programs can offer a flexible learning environment for students who have to balance classes with working a full-time job, caring for their family or other responsibilities.”

U.S. News & World Report, a multiplatform publisher of news and information, evaluated 1,545 programs – up from 1,490 last year – including both bachelor’s and graduate programs in fields like nursing, education, business and engineering. The schools chosen for review submitted information that would be relevant to adult students.

“Online programs can offer a flexible learning environment for students who have to balance classes with working a full-time job, caring for their family or other responsibilities,” said Anita Narayan, managing editor of education at U.S. News & World Report. “The Best Online Programs rankings allow students to compare accredited programs and find those that best fit their education interests and career goals.”

To help these nontraditional students in their college search, this year’s list ranked U.S. online degree programs based on a number of factors uniquely relevant to working adults. Unlike traditional lists that examine high school class rank or standardized test scores, the “2019 Best Online Programs” list considered factors such as student engagement, faculty credentials, student services and technology, and expert opinion.

The best programs were found to be flexible and creative in their delivery and were effective at awarding affordable degrees in a reasonable amount of time.
