University of Oklahoma Outreach was recently recognized with five marketing awards at Oklahoma College Public Relations Association (OCPRA) banquet in Sulphur, OK.
The OCPRA awards competition recognizes the best in contemporary communications from educational institutions – both public and private – throughout Oklahoma. This annual competition was created in 1992 by the OCPRA to reward achievement, recognize excellence and encourage a healthy competitive spirit by those who represent higher education to the public. This year, 498 entries were submitted from 40 higher education institutions from across the state.
Winning the prestigious Grand Award in the Magazine category was OU’s College of Liberal Studies publication, Insight (Spring 2015), CLS’s faculty and alumni magazine. The issue focused on leadership. The magazine also won the Excellence Award for the cover design category. John Huggins, editor-in-chief, Mary Wuestewald, managing editor, Traci Fuller, art director/designer, and executive editor Jerry Jerman contributed to the issue. Outreach also won the Excellence Award in two other categories. The “Precollegiate Summer Camp Mailer” won in the Direct Mail Piece category and the “Medieval Fair Coloring Book” won in the Bright Idea category. Both pieces were designed by Kelli Smith, graphic designer. Taking home the Achievement Award in the Blogs/Editorial/Column category was Mary Wuestewald’s piece “10 Major Benefits of Being a Sooner,” which appeared on the Insight blog.
“I’m extremely excited for the recognition for OU Outreach and the College of Liberal Studies marketing teams,” said James Pappas, vice president of Outreach and dean of the College of Liberal Studies. “The honors are well-deserved and didn’t come without hard work and a group of talented people.”
OCPRA’s mission is to bring together professional communicators from both public and private institutions of higher education in Oklahoma with a single focus: promoting higher education in this state as a means to enrich its citizens and economy. College and university public relations professionals -- both rural and urban, junior college and large research universities -- participate as OCPRA members and form a network for sharing ideas and resources.
