Mini College Will Offer In-Person Camp Sessions This Summer

Like many events, Precollegiate Programs’ Mini College was canceled last year due to COVID-19. This summer, they will once again welcome school-age students onto the OU campus for nine sessions of the popular day camp.

While Precollegiate Programs was able to pivot and offer students online, interactive craft projects last summer, organizers are excited for the opportunity to offer in-person camps again this year.

“We are so excited to have our students back on campus this summer to engage them in hands-on educational experiences and safe socialization with their fellow campers.”

“We are so excited to have our students back on campus this summer to engage them in hands-on educational experiences and safe socialization with their fellow campers,” said Cassie Eads, program director with Precollegiate Programs. “I know so many of our students are looking forward to learning more about the world around them through their Mini College classes, and I can’t wait to enjoy some fun in the sun at the pool every day.”

Camps are designed for students entering first through sixth grades and will meet from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Students will be grouped by grade levels, attending three different fun, engaging classes daily that feature a broad range of subjects. Curriculum covers science, math, art and culture while allowing students to learn about OU in a kid-friendly environment. Each day will end with swim time at the OU pool from 3 to 5 p.m.

Due to COVID-19 classroom capacity restrictions on campus, Mini College camps will be limited to 50% capacity. Camp enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis; however, there will be a waiting list in case space opens.

Eads said Mini College will adhere to all OU-Norman Campus COVID-19 regulations, including masks, social distancing, frequent handwashing and regular surface sanitization.

“We will continue to monitor any changes and adapt as needed throughout the summer,” Eads said. “Any changes will be communicated to registered participants.”

Session dates are as follows:

  • Session I – June 7-11, 2021
  • Session II – June 14-18, 2021
  • Session III – June 21-25, 2021
