Host Families Needed for CESL Program

Host Families Needed for CESL Program

The OU PACS Center for English as a Second Language is searching for host families for Japanese students participating in their upcoming Ritsumeikan program.

The homestay portion of the program will be from February 6-21, but the full program will last until March 5. The students to be hosted are from Ritsumeikan University in Koyoto, Japan, are typically 18-20 years old, and have English language abilities ranging from limited to proficient. Host families should be willing to provide transportation to and from class each day, general room and board, as well as taking the student along on routine trips, such as the grocery store or shopping.

The goal is for the students to experience daily life in the United States and host families are encouraged to live life as they normally would so the student gets an authentic experience. Host families will receive a stipend to help cover the costs of food and transportation. OU CESL has hosted students from Ritsumeikan University for the past twenty-five years. The students come to learn English and experience campus life and the American family. While the students are in Norman, they will experience a Thunder game, OU basketball, the Fred Jones Museum of Art, the Chickasaw Cultural Center, and numerous other small cultural events so they may get a better understanding of life in Oklahoma.
