Highlights from OU’s 15th Annual Aviation Festival

OU Aviation and Max Westheimer Airport hosted the 15th Annual Aviation Festival and Open House on Saturday, Oct. 2, giving the people of Norman and the surrounding communities a chance to get up close to a wide array of aircraft and family-friendly activities for the first time since 2019.

A variety of aircraft and private planes were on display, in addition to select aircraft from the OU School of Aviation Studies training fleet. Attendees were able to view radio-controlled aircraft demonstrations and interact with law enforcement vehicles and Civil Air Patrol aircraft.

Sooner Flight Academy’s mascot, Sooney, also hosted events for kids, where children had the chance to role-play a variety of airport jobs in addition to launching air-powered rockets. Attendees were also able try Sooner Flight Academy’s new educational augmented reality app for the first time, allowing them to explore and interact with a virtual aircraft, learn about the parts of the plane and test their knowledge about airplane functionality.
