Graduate Certificate in Administrative Leadership Can Set You Apart

Graduate Certificate in Administrative Leadership Can Set You Apart

If you want to set yourself apart from others in your field but don’t have the time or money for a master’s degree, a graduate certificate may be for you. A graduate certificate can help you build credentials and skills in less time by focusing on a few key courses that improve your skills in a specific area.

OU Extended Campus offers five graduate certificates, including the Administrative Leadership certificate. In addition to finding your own leadership style, you’ll learn to become an effective leader capable of creating and leading a diverse workplace.

If you’re ready to transform your career with a more specialized understanding of leadership, or show employers you’re ready for a leadership role, it might be time to pursue the certificate program.

The Graduate Certificate in Administrative Leadership can be completed online or in a hybrid format and will equip you with a more specialized understanding of leadership. Courses are 16 weeks long in spring and fall and eight weeks long in summer.

While most students take two courses in the spring and fall semesters and one course in the summer, your course load is up to you. You can discuss your options with your advisor.

Here are a few other things you need to know if you’re considering the program.

Admission

You can complete the Graduate Certificate in Administrative Leadership program while enrolled in a graduate degree program, or you can apply for direct admission into the certificate program after earning a bachelor’s degree. Credit hours used to complete your certificate program can be applied to a graduate degree program.

If you’re applying for admission to pursue the certificate, the admission requirements and process are the same as degree-seeking students. However, you can’t be admitted on a conditional status to a certificate program.

Requirements

After being admitted into the program, you’ll complete 12 hours of coursework. Required courses are Theories of Management and Leadership (three hours) and Cultures of Organizations (three hours).

You’ll also choose an elective option—either two additional three-hour courses or the Experiential Leadership Completion Program. Electives courses include Individual Leadership; Organizational Communication; Creating, Leading and Managing Change; Leadership in Practice; and U.S. Leadership.

If you choose the completion program, you’ll spend five days on the University of Oklahoma’s Norman campus. You’ll work closely with faculty, consultants and fellow students while participating in lectures, experiential learning exercises and in-depth behavioral assessments.

Benefits

When you earn a graduate certificate from Extended Campus, you’ll gain valuable skills and spruce up your resume with credentials from a respected university without the time and expense required for a master’s degree. You’ll also learn from top-notch professors while interacting with other students in online forums or on campus.

If you’re ready to transform your career with a more specialized understanding of leadership, or show employers you’re ready for a leadership role, it might be time to pursue the certificate program.
