Cultural Diversity in the World
Why is it cool?
From the Chinese, Greek and Italian food you eat to the yoga poses you might perform, various cultural staples highlight that America is a very different country than it was 50 years ago. As the world is shrinking and becoming more varied, older mindsets and communication skills about dissimilar cultures, ethnicities and gender are quickly being archived in the pages of history. In this changing environment, the workforce demands that we accommodate different populations for the sake of harmony, expansion and productivity. Few people, however, have actually been trained to effectively recruit, manage and promote a multicultural workforce.
Over the next decade, the United States will experience dramatic demographic shifts, with increases in the number of women, immigrants and minorities. Cultural Diversity in the World promotes a better understanding of multiplicity and prepares future managers, supervisors, training professionals and educators to oversee culturally diverse employees.
In this class, students will learn how and why affirmative action programs are implemented in the workforce. They will gain an in-depth historical and legal perspective for better analytical approaches to cultural diversity and gain a host of skills that help promote lifelong service.
To understand future multi-cultural employees, students must be familiar with the fundamentals of a number of cultures that encompass the major principles of world religions and the nature of culture itself. Building upon that, Cultural Diversity in the World addresses ethnic, racial, gender and/or tribal diversity from select countries. By the end of the course, students will be able to articulate an understanding of multiculturalism, cultural accommodation, acculturation and the value of diversity in the workplace. The ultimate goal is for students to walk away with a newfound perspective that will bleed over into other areas of their lives.
With global markets, social media, immigration and cross-continental transportation, the human race is finding new methods of interconnecting despite customary differences. The number of choices we’re given and perspectives we encounter are constantly expanding. Understanding how to effectively support and communicate with multiple cultures allows for more choices, productivity and a global community—a solid foundation that Cultural Diversity in the World will help you build to last a lifetime.
