LSCJ 4403 – Criminal Investigation
Why is it cool?
Crime solving 101 conjures thoughts of a kit purchased from a childhood book order or episodes of BBC’s Sherlock Holmes. Solving a crime, however, isn’t as simple as a wry sidekick, a looking glass or thumbing through mental filing cabinets for answers. Criminal Investigation is about real-life crime solving that integrates investigative methodology, physical evidence preservation and cutting-edge crime-solving technology.
In Criminal Investigation, students will learn theoretical and practical aspects of a criminal investigation that include: gathering investigative information from victims and witnesses; searching and recording crime scenes; and utilizing the principles of physical evidence collections and preservation. This course places a strong emphasis on investigative policies, as well as procedures and practices vital to securing the truth in today’s legal system. The skills students will learn in Criminal Investigation, however, transcend college and the criminal justice system.
Life is full of mystery, where at every turn we have to investigate multiple perspectives that help us to establish a truth. On the most human of levels, Criminal Investigationfosters lifelong learning by giving students basic evidence gathering and truth-seeking skills that far surpass a career field.
