The OU Extended Campus College of Professional and Continuing Studies aviation department held its 18th annual Spring Aviation Banquet April 12 at the Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History. The event honors aviation students who have excelled in their studies by earning scholarships and awards. This year, 26 students were awarded scholarships totaling $20,750 for the spring semester.
"We also award scholarships each fall semester," said OU Director of Aviation Ken Carson. "This year, we're on schedule to award over $40,000 in scholarships directly to aviation students."
The highlight of the banquet was a keynote address given by Robert Isom, president of American Airlines. Carson said Isom's comments on the airline industry, as well as the national and global economy, resonated with what the students study each semester in their aviation and business classes.
"To have the opportunity to hear a president of a Fortune 500 company, let alone the world's largest global airline, is an event they should remember for the rest of their lives and careers," Carson said. "I view this as a significant day in their education."
