Becoming an RBT is the first step toward joining one of the fastest-growing fields in the country. Through this online course, you’ll gain unrivaled skills from a regionally accredited university, combining your training and assessment in just eight weeks.

At the completion of our course, you will be ready to apply to take the national exam with the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) to earn your RBT credential.

What is a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT)?

A Registered Behavior Technician is a paraprofessional who practices under the close, ongoing supervision of a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) to help individuals with autism and behavioral disabilities. The RBT’s primary responsibility is to implement behavior treatment plans developed by the supervisor directly with clients.

Your RBT credential will help you stand apart from the competition providing a legitimate career track within the Applied Behavior Analysis field. You will engage in a career that provides upward mobility and professional growth. 

Who’s Eligible to Become RBT Certified?

You must meet certain requirements to be eligible to become RBT certified, including being at least 18 years of age and having demonstrated completion of high school or equivalent/higher. Please visit the BACB website for eligibility requirements. 

Why Should I Choose the University of Oklahoma's RBT Class?

To become a certified RBT, you must meet training, competency assessment, and examination requirements. The RBT class at OU meets both the training requirement and the RBT Competency Assessment and is taught by certified BACB faculty, so you can get there Sooner.

How Do I Get Started? 

If You ONLY Want to Register for the Registered Behavior Technician Class:

To register for the eight-week RBT class (LSLC 4513), you will need to complete a shortened version of our undergraduate application:

  1. Create an account - OU College of Professional and Continuing Studies Application
  2. Select “Visiting/Non-Degree Application - I have graduated from high school and am applying as a visiting, non-degree seeking student”
  3. There is NO $40 application fee required. When prompted to pay, do not do so: instead, please email pacsUGadmissions@ou.edu to have administratively waived

No transcripts are required. Processing time is two to five days. 

Note: Financial aid is only available to degree-seeking students. 

If You Want to Apply for Admission to a Degree Program and Take the Registered Behavior Technician Class:

To register for the Lifespan Care Administration bachelor’s degree (or another College of Professional and Continuing Studies bachelor’s program) AND take our RBT course (LSLC 4513):

  1. Create an account - OU College of Professional and Continuing Studies Application
  2. Submit transcripts for every institution previously attended. 
  3. There is NO $40 application fee required. When prompted to pay, do not do so: instead, please email pacsUGadmissions@ou.edu to have administratively waived

Processing time is two to three weeks.
